Datto Merges With Autotask

Channele2e reports that the private equity firm that owns Autotask has decided to buy Datto (who hired bankers last month) and merge it with Autotask!

Datto has a extensive partner program. This will be interesting to watch.

This move puts pressure on ConnectWise (another RMM+PSA) for sure.

Kaseya has already made a pivot by buying Traverse in 2013 and finally figuring out what to do withit. Kaseya Traverse can monitor and manage SD-WAN services for Fortune 1000 and mid-market customers. As Channele2e writes, “SD-WAN services are a hot growth area for MSPs and telecom service providers — but such services are useless without proper IT management services in place.”

The world of tech is in a flurry of transactions. Hardly any of this activity ends up being a positive move.

Robocalls Are Killing Me

I received 7 interrupting calls today. Five of them were automated messages or hang-ups. Two others were sales calls for a charity and a credit card processing company.

I am seriously thinking about a class action lawsuit against the carriers who still sell short duration billing on long distance. If the price for a hangup was 1 minute instead of 6 seconds or even 30 seconds with some billers, the cost for robo-dialing would increase 12x or at the very least double.

Companies like Voice Blaze (call broadcast services) would be another target.

DSL providers remain most vulnerable to switching.

Top Factors. Cost (69%) and Quality/Reliability of Service (68%) are the most important factors when consumers choose an ISP.

“In the competitive mobile space, it takes a concerted effort to build the customer experience. Verizon Wireless recently took it a step further when it brought in Scott Zimmer to serve in a new position as its Chief Customer Experience Officer. According to Scott, customer experience definitely creates a competitive advantage over other companies. The Ransonware Threat Grows

Two separate reports on Ransomware:

About 5% of all small and medium-sized businesses were affected by ransomware in 2016, paying more than $301 million to ransomware attackers during the year, according to Datto’s State of the Channel Ransomware Report.

In a report commissioned by Cisco Systems and Dimension Data, Cisco’s 2017 Mid-Year Cyber Security Report, found that nearly 50 percent of businesses around the globe experienced at least one cyber attack in 2016, and, of those, 39% were ransomware attacks. In the US alone, the number of attacks rose 300% from 2015 to 2016.
